Thank you for stopping by! I'm AMMA JO, designer and entrepreneur. I started my handbag collection with 1 handbag and $100. At my heart of hearts, I'm an artist, a true creative. I decided one day to test one of my artwork designs on a handbag sample I made for $100 - the rest is history. What a wild ride. I took that one sample I created and asked my friends and family for their support. After pre-selling about 100 bags, I produced my first collection. I then went on to present at my first buyers show, Philadelphia Gift Show. I barely had enough bags to do the show - I just had about 12 bags left from my first 100 bags I produced. I bought a bunch of white boxes and LED lights off amazon and stuck them on the boxes. I landed my first 10 wholesale accounts!
I love community.
I then went on to open my showroom downtown Harrisburg, PA. If you're in the Harrisburg, PA area, stop by to see all the fun and colorful designs and new prints I'm working on. The retail showroom is a very important piece of my story. A lot of people ask me why I have a retail space in today's environment. Well, that's an easy answer: because my brand is about community. My brand is nothing without community.
I've always loved fashion. My first job ever was working as an intern with a major department store downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I went on to spend my first 5 years of my career working in the buying offices and stores with that department store. I then spent the next 15 years working in economic development and that's what gave me my love for community. So, in addition to the showroom, I host a series of community events to help connect people to resources - to help startups find their way and to help people in my community advance their careers.
I'm just getting started!
